Spirit of Power (Part I)

There are three persons in the Godhead: The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. An example where all three are listed is 2 Corinthians 13:14: "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all." God is all knowing (omniscient); His presence is everywhere (omnipresent), and he is all power (omnipotent). In John's vision in Revelation 19:6, he heard a great multitude proclaiming "Hallelujah, for the Lord God omnipotent reignth." God possesses what no other creature possesses: an unexplainable amount of power, all power.

In John 14, Jesus told his disciples that when He had returned to heaven He would give to them another comforter. He was speaking of the Holy Spirit, who would be another, yet exactly the same as Jesus. As God is Trinity, the Holy Spirit is equal to the Son as well as to the Father. They are different in their Person, yet they are the same in the Godhead, and it was the Person of the Holy Spirit that Jesus was speaking of when He said in Acts 1:8, "ye shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon you."

It is this Power, the Power the Holy Spirit gives to Christ's Church, that gives Him the name of 'Spirit of Power'. He has been given to the Church to work in our lives to free us from the habits of sin, and to enable the Church to spread the Gospel of Jesus.
